Inverse Psoriasis - Flexural PsoriasisAbout Inverse Psoriasis (also called Flexural Psoriasis) & SymptomsIn inverse psoriasis (also called flexural psoriasis), smooth, red patches occurs in the flexion creases (skin folds) near the genitals, under the breasts, or in the armpits. The symptoms may be worsened by friction, sweating and / or the presence of yeast or fungal infections. Inverse psoriasis (or flexural psoriasis) appears as smooth, dry areas of skin that are red and inflamed but do not have the scaling associated with plaque psoriasis. Inverse psoriasis is more frequent and severe in people who are overweight because it is in the folds of skin where it is particularly prone to irritation from rubbing and sweating frequently. Topical creams and ointments are used to treat inverse psoriasis (or flexural psoriasis). Corticosteroids, vitamin D3 derivatives, tacrolimus, retinoids, coal tar, or anthralin are typically used. Due to the sensitive nature of the skin folds of the body, irritation from treatments is common. |
